Celebrating a REPUBLICAN President signing the Emancipation Proclamation, on this day 155 years ago

Grand Old Partisan celebrates the Republican Party’s Emancipation Proclamation going into effect on New Year’s Day 1863.  While Republicans rejoiced, Democrat politicians and newspapers denounced President Abraham Lincoln (R-IL) for freeing slaves.

Demonstrating their depravity, New York’s Gov. Horatio Seymour, who would be the 1868 Democrat presidential nominee, denounced the Emancipation Proclamation as “a proposal for the butchery of women and children.”  The Louisville Daily Democrat called it “an outrage of all constitutional law, all human justice, all Christian feeling.”

“You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments;

. . . rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe.”
— John Adams (October 30, 1735 – July 4, 1826) was an American statesman, diplomat and political theorist. A leading champion of independence in 1776, he was the second President of the United States (1797–1801).

A Libertarian Defense of Lincoln

In libertarian circles, Abraham Lincoln isn’t a president that gets a whole lot of respect. There are a few reasons for this, including:

1. Lincoln illegally suspended habeas corpus, barricaded cities and stretched the limits of executive power well-beyond any measure, even with generous interpretation, that could be granted by the Constitution

Gendercide: the REAL War on Women

The silence of the so-called ‘feminists’

Where are the girls? The answer should shame us all. Abortion for sex selection is practised so regularly in this country that it’s led to a shortfall in the population of girls. Thousands are “missing”, especially in certain immigrant communities. Aborting babies because they are female has been widespread in India and China for generations: there are as many as 120 boys for every 100 girls there. Now the practice has come to distort British demography – and values.

Sex-selective abortion remains a crime in Britain, but, as the Telegraph investigation last year revealed, it is increasingly common. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has ruled that guidance for doctors in this area should be updated – but did not prosecute the two doctors exposed in the Telegraph investigation.

When parents can abort a baby because it’s a girl, they are guilty of the worst kind of sexism. Rape, porn, the tyranny of beauty that compels little girls to perform plastic surgery to attain perfection: these are nothing in comparison to the mindset that will not allow for girls to be conceived in the first place.
